Breast cancer survivors and those seeking to help prevent breast cancer are needed to assist in a local effort to spread the word about the ongoing Mammograms Save Lives campaign, a joint effort by Project Self-Sufficiency, Intercar Mercedes Benz, Sussex Honda, the New Jersey Herald and the Komen for the Cure® North Jersey Affiliate. The effort includes public relations efforts, the annual tie-a-ribbon campaign, and breast health education forums at area schools, churches, civic organizations and other entities. An informational meeting will be held at Project Self-Sufficiency on Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m.; registration is required. The agency is located at 127 Mill Street in Newton.
“Project Self-Sufficiency’s breast health education program has been extraordinarily successful over the past 10 years,” notes Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director at Project Self-Sufficiency. “We have reached more than 60,000 teens and adults with our education efforts, and hundreds of women have received free mammograms at Project Self-Sufficiency. Now we are seeking to dig deeper and initiate a town-by-town effort to help women and men in the fight against breast cancer.”
The agency is particularly interested in locating breast cancer survivors, as well as those who are committed to educating the public about breast cancer prevention, to assist with the outreach effort.
