A free seminar about Helping Professions will be offered to teens and adults on Thursday, October 18th, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Project Self-Sufficiency. Newton Medical Center Chaplain Randy Parks, and Psychotherapist Randi Jeddis, will be joined by Sussex Middle School Guidance Counselor Mary Jo Vroegindewey and Project Self-Sufficiency Social Worker Lisa Murphy for a discussion of their background, education and the tasks that accompany their unique professions. Questions from the audience will be welcome. “Becoming You: Helping Professions” will touch on positions in social work, counseling, schools and hospital settings, private practice, and more. The seminar is free and open to teens and adults, but registration is required.
Randy Parks, currently serving as Chaplain at the Newton Medical Center, has had a long and varied career in the ministry. Randy attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and eventually left the Lone Star State, making stops in Wyoming, California and New York before landing in Sussex County. Along the way, Randy obtained a Divinity degree, was ordained a Baptist minister, started a church, and obtained a Master’s degree in Theology. Randy’s pastoral experience includes stints at the West End Baptist Church in Manhattan, the chaplaincy at Columbia University, and service as the Associate Pastor at the Plymouth Church of the Pilgrim in Brooklyn. He also served as the Director of Community Ministries at All Angels Episcopal Church in New York City.
Licensed Social Worker Lisa Murphy started out in Human Resources but after ten years, she returned to school, obtained a Master’s Degree and embarked on a career in social work. She has a background in substance abuse treatment and clinical work, and is currently employed as a Case Manager at Project Self-Sufficiency.
As a licensed psychologist, Randi Jeddis focuses on the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health issues in her private practice which is located in Verona. Randi currently conducts marriage and family therapy, but she has previous experience working with patients in a psychiatric hospital and in an outpatient setting.
As a member of the Sussex Middle School Guidance Department, Mary Jo Vroegindewey assists students with scheduling, counseling, assessment and provides support to families when needed.
